The anatomy of planning

Three coffee cups deep and I’m finally seeing the pattern.

The anatomy of planning

The anatomy of planning

Jake found me like this an hour ago - papers everywhere, color-coded lists, backup plans for my backup plans. He just shook his head and brought me another mug.

Turns out our anniversary weekend planning process taught me more about us than I expected. I’m the one who needs seventeen different restaurant options researched and ranked by price, atmosphere, and walking distance from our hotel. Jake’s the one who says “let’s just see what looks good when we get there.” I make spreadsheets. He trusts the universe.

Lists on lists on lists.

Lists on lists on lists.

The weird thing is, it’s actually working. My obsessive planning gives him permission to be spontaneous, and his go-with-the-flow energy keeps me from spiraling into decision paralysis. Like right now - I’ve got our entire weekend mapped out in three different scenarios, but I already know we’ll probably ignore half of it and stumble into something better.

Maybe the real planning was the relationship dynamics we discovered along the way. Or maybe I just really like making lists. Both can be true.
