Three weeks of anniversary planning officially wrapped, and I’m sitting here staring at what can only be described as a paper explosion across our living room floor.

Apparently I’m the type of person who prints backup confirmations for backup confirmations and color-codes restaurant options by cuisine type.

Jake walked through this morning, stepped carefully around my organizational system, and just said “You know they’ll have our reservation in their computer, right?” Which, yes, obviously they will. But what if their computer crashes? What if there’s a mix-up? What if we need to reference the exact table preference I noted three calls ago?

The whole process has been weirdly revealing about how we approach things differently. He’s the “it’ll work out” guy, I’m apparently the “seventeen contingency plans” girl. Not sure when that happened, but here we are. The funny thing is, it actually works. His calm balances out my tendency to over-prepare, and my planning means we never end up wandering around hungry at 9pm because everywhere good is booked.

Guess that’s what two years of figuring each other out looks like - learning that our different approaches to planning don’t have to drive each other crazy. They can just… complement each other. Even if it means our coffee table disappears under a small forest of printed emails for a few weeks.
