The heating finally got fixed yesterday, but I keep thinking about the week we spent without it. Not the shivering part - though there was plenty of that - but watching how Jake handled the whole mess.

While I was mentally spiraling through worst-case scenarios, he was already on the floor with his notebook, methodically testing every possible cause. Three pages of troubleshooting notes, complete with timestamps and temperature readings. I used to think his systematic approach to everything was just his personality, but watching him tackle our mini-crisis made me realize it’s actually his way of taking care of us.

Three repair quotes and counting

By day three, he’d gotten quotes from four different repair services and created a spreadsheet comparing their rates and availability. The old me might have found that excessive, but sitting there in our freezing apartment, wrapped in every blanket we owned, I felt genuinely grateful to be partnered with someone who doesn’t panic when life gets complicated.

Turns out there’s something deeply romantic about watching your person calmly solve problems while you’re busy catastrophizing. Who knew crisis management could be a love language?
