Brush strokes and bad technique

Alex stopped by this afternoon with a small watercolor set and announced he was going to teach me the “therapeutic art of painting.” I was skeptical, but Sunday seemed like the perfect day to try something completely new.

Turns out there’s actual technique involved in watercolor - who would have thought? Alex kept correcting how I held the brush and explaining something about “wet on wet” versus “wet on dry.” I nodded along while secretly thinking all my blob-like flowers looked exactly the same regardless of technique.

By the end of the session, I’d managed to create what could generously be called a landscape. Alex was encouraging about my “bold color choices,” which I’m pretty sure is art teacher code for “you used way too much paint.” But honestly? It was kind of relaxing once I stopped trying to make it look like anything specific.

Might have to add this to my list of Sunday activities. Jake’s already making jokes about turning the apartment into an art studio.
