Tissues and fictional trauma

Michelle stopped by after work with takeout and the brilliant idea to catch up on Grey’s Anatomy together. We’re three episodes behind and apparently three episodes deeper into emotional devastation than either of us was prepared for.

Tissues and fictional trauma

I thought I was tough. I’ve made it through anatomy class without flinching at cadaver lab. But put Meredith Grey in front of me making life-or-death decisions and I’m grabbing for tissues like my life depends on it. Michelle’s no better - she claims she never cries at movies, but here we are, synchronized sobbing at fictional doctors.

The tissue box didn't stand a chance.

The tissue box didn’t stand a chance.

Jake walked through twenty minutes ago, took one look at us, and quietly restocked the tissue box without a word. Sometimes he really gets it. We still have two more episodes queued up, and honestly, I’m not sure our tear ducts are ready.

Why do we do this to ourselves? And why can’t we stop?
