Official employee status

👩‍⚕️ Elena

Forty-five minutes until my first real shift as an actual employee instead of just that girl who helps out sometimes.

Jake keeps telling me I’ll be fine, but there’s something different about having “official responsibilities” versus just jumping in when they need extra hands.

Spent the last twenty minutes going through the employee handbook again because apparently I’m that person now.

The section on emergency procedures is longer than I expected, which is either very thorough or slightly terrifying. Probably both.

The good news is I already know most of the members and the equipment. The slightly panic-inducing news is that I’m supposed to know how to handle situations I’ve never actually handled before. Like what happens when someone gets injured during a pickup basketball game, or when the pool filter starts making weird noises, or when Karen from accounting comes in asking about her “special workout plan” for the third time this week.

Jake made me coffee in my travel mug and wrote “You’ve got this” on a sticky note. He’s not wrong, but my stomach apparently didn’t get the memo. Time to go be a real adult with a real job.
